小川康博 Yasuhiro Ogawa 記憶猶托夢

小川康博(Yasuhiro Ogawa),一位於香港知名度並非很高的日本攝影師,同時於社交媒體上亦稱不上是大受歡迎的藝術家。只坐擁1000多名Instagram追蹤者的他,原來早已踏入知命之年,其一生奉獻於攝影創作。當小川偶爾重視27年來拍攝過的底片,那些離鄉尋夢的旅程記憶,一下間湧上心頭,促成了他的最新攝影著作:《The Dreaming》的出現。到底這些以攝影勾勒出的片段和畫面,是真實記憶還是夢境一場?

目前小川康博正舉行於香港的首次個人展覽,Project RAW有幸跟小川進行訪談,讓讀者進一步了解其攝影夢的創作故事。

PR:你為甚麼會成為一名攝影師?
小川:
1993年,我無意之間參觀了巴西攝影師 Sebastião Salgado於東京的展覽,自始我對攝影深深著迷……在觀賞這攝影展前,我從來沒有想象過攝影原來可以成為一種藝術。同年,我下定決心要帶著相機去印度,從那時起,我從未停下攝影的步伐。

PR:Why did you choose to be a photographer?
YO:
In 1993 I accidentally visited Sebastiao Salgado's exhibition in Tokyo and I was hooked - I had never expected that photography could be an ART before I saw this. In the same year I made up my mind to go to India with a camera in my hand and since then I have been continuing to do so.


PR:如果就着《The Dreaming》的系列來說,你覺得你的攝影作品相比起其他人的作品有甚麼特別之處?
小川:
我最新著作《The Dreaming》中的作品,是我從事攝影以及旅行27年以來的整合,當中雖然沒有一致主題,但是我深相它們擁有一種持久的光環……可能這來自我的潛意識吧,而我認為這是促使《The Dreaming》擁有其獨特之處的原因。

PR:What makes your photography special compared to others? Based on ‘The Dreaming’ series.
YO:
The photos of my latest book The Dreaming were selected randomly from my 27 years' career in photography and traveling and don't have any consistent theme between them. Yet, I believe that those photos have one persistent aura -which might have come from my subconscious mind - and I believe it makes this book special.

PR:如果你沒有成為攝影師,你覺得人生會變得怎樣不一樣?
小川:
在成為專業攝影師之前,我曾經在不同補習班教授英語及歷史,如果我沒有選擇攝影師的人生,或許我仍然在那裡教書吧。是的,我非常熱忱教學。

PR:How you imagine your life would be different if you never become a photographer?
YO:
Before I became a professional photographer I used to teach English and History at some cram schools and I would have been teaching there if I didn't choose life as a photographer. Yes, I like teaching.


PR:可分享下你最近一次的夢境嗎?
小川:
我經常發同一個夢……我出現於一個城鎮(?),站在大街之上。這條街道很長,兩邊都佈滿房子,但杳無人煙。主要的顏色大概是淡黃色。就是這樣。從童年時期開始我就經常夢到同一夢境,剛好昨晚我又看到了這個夢境……也許這個地方跟我的前世有甚麼關係?我也很想知道……

PR:Can you share your most recent dream?
YO:
There is one dream I often see - I am in a town (?) and standing on the street. The street is long and it has houses on both sides but no one was there. The color must be yellowish. That's all. Since my childhood I often see this dream and last night I saw this again. Does this place have any relation with my past life or something? I'd love to know..

PR:《The Dreaming》系列裡那一張作品令你最印象深刻?
小川:
我最印象深刻的是拍攝音樂家的照片(第28頁)。這張照片是我拍攝的第一批作品,亦是我一生中首次帶著相機在印度背包旅行。我去了Ladakh的Lamayuru修道院觀看那裡的冬季節慶,當地人喝了很多杯Chang,這是當地的一種酒精,味道就像淡啤酒,非常受當地人的歡迎。結果我喝了太多酒,幾乎失去了知覺,哈哈!回到日本沖曬底片時,我很驚訝地看到這張照片……因為我完全忘記捕捉過這畫面了,但我認為這張作品意想不到的漂亮。也許當地的神靈幫助了我?這是一趟非常難忘的旅程,我永不會忘記這次的拍攝經歷。

PR:Which photo from ‘The Dreaming’ leaves you the most unforgettable experience?
YO:
The photo of musicians (p28, see the attached) is the one I remember most. This photo is one of the very first photos I made, while on my backpacking trip to India with a camera in my hand for the first time in my life. I went to Lamayuru Monastery, Ladakh, to see the winter festival there and I was welcomed by locals with many cups of Chang, a local alcohol that tastes like light beer. I drank too much and I almost ended up losing my conscience, haha. When I developed my film after coming back to Japan I was very surprised to see this photo - I don't remember at all when I made this shot but I thought this shot was surprisingly nice. Maybe local gods helped me? It was a very memorable trip and I won't forget this shooting experience.

PR:你目前有攝影項目正在進行中嗎?
小川:
有的,我有數個項目進行中,例如日本北部的冬景、京都的美學、沖繩群島的風景和東京街拍。我將於Facebook和Instagram上發布即將出版的攝影集以及相關活動,各位繼續關注!

PR:Do you have any upcoming projects you can share with our readers?
YO:
Yes, I have several projects with me such as Winter landscapes in northern Japan, The aesthetics of Kyoto, Landscape photos of Okinawa islands and Tokyo street shooting. I'll post upcoming publications and events on Facebook and Instagram, please stay tuned! 

PR:可給予香港年輕創作者一些建議嗎?
小川:
不要複製其他攝影師的作品,自然地做自己。嘗試深化自己的世界,多讀書會有所幫助。

PR:Any advice for young artists?
YO:
Don't copy other photographers' works, be yourself. Try to deepen your own world, reading many books will help. 

我的作品並不是要記錄世界,而是要追索和捕捉情感。我希望觀眾看過我的作品後能感受至深。

筆者初接觸小川康博的作品,其實並非《The Dreaming》系列,反而是小川十年間到訪日本不同荒島的旅程:《Shimagatari 島語り》攝影集。當時看著書中的影像,不禁有一種言語說不清的感動湧上心頭……或許就如小川對談間提及過的夢境一樣,這是一種勾起前世今生回憶的感動?

小川的作品擁有一種扣人心弦的魅力,彷彿是有聲音的二維影像,當看著他的作品時,好像突然了解創作人常說的「會說故事的作品」,是怎麼一回事了。

「除了群島上較大的主要島嶼外,日本其實還有約300個有人居的島。它們大多數是小島,人跡稀少,只有數百居民,幾乎大部分都是老年人。而這些島嶼曾經充滿活力,但我懷疑由於人口老化及減少,大多數島嶼將在不久的將來被拋棄。這本書是我十年間到訪這些荒島的旅程成果。我坐在空曠的海灘上俯瞰大海。我相信我們的祖先也曾坐在同一地方,俯視過同一片海洋。海洋永遠不會改變,但隨著時間的流逝,只有人類的生命曾做出過改變,而這種改變只會不斷增長、成熟並消亡。」-小川康博

關於小川康博:

1968年生於日本神奈川縣。90年代初深受大師 Sebastião Salgado 的作品啟發而踏入攝影領域,目前作為自由攝影師並定居東京。他舉辦過多場個展和聯合展覽,出版了五本攝影集並曾獲得了多個獎項,包括他的第一個個人展覽《Futashika-na-Chizu》(1999年)獲第37屆太陽賞,以及第一本攝影集《Slowly Down the River》(2006年)獲得了日本攝影學會新人獎。
